What is the Goal of octiv.live? And Why Should You Care?

Starting something from nothing is hard.

How did Alexander Graham Bell explain the first telephone in a way that got people on board? There was no telecommunications infrastructure in place, no benchmark, no prior concept for people to latch onto. Just a new idea and a lot of people who would rather stick to the letters that they were used to... and a lot of carrier pigeons that didn't want to go back to the bread line.

In a way, this is kind of how we feel here at octiv.live. I'm not saying we're anywhere near as innovative or significant as the landmark invention of the telephone, but I'm also not saying we're not. (We're not).

What I'm trying to say is that we think we've come up with something really unique that doesn't quite exist out there for working musicians and artists, and we want to share it with you! But first, we have to make sure you understand what we're trying to do.

So now, I'm gonna do that!

The Goal of octiv.live

Our goal is to eliminate as much B.S. as we can from the live music booking process as possible. The world needs live music, local artists, local shows, and thriving local music scenes. Being gigging musicians ourselves, we understand that a few things can make the process of booking local shows sub-optimal, to put it nicely.

A Direct Communication Hub for Artists and Venues

As is, reaching out to venues to book shows typically happens through a few different channels - via email, text, or Instagram/Facebook DM. Because local venues range in size and levels of management, the booking process for each venue can be pretty scattered. There's no standardized way for venues and artists to communicate.

Many local artists also have full or part-time jobs outside of music. Keeping track of which band member messaged which venue on which platform can get pretty overwhelming pretty quickly, causing responsiveness on both ends to suffer. Remembering to follow up with Joe Shmoe from the Prickly Pig on an email chain from 2 weeks ago isn't always going to happen.

Both artists and venues would benefit immensely from a localized communication hub. Imagine all of your booking communications and requests in one spot! This is the exact challenge we think we can solve with octiv.live. We want to make the process of booking live local music as organized and manageable as possible for working musicians, artists, and venues everywhere.

Your Own Free Micro-Website & Promotional Tool

Octiv.live also serves another important purpose for busy working musicians: An octiv.live artist page is essentially a free shareable micro-website that features everything you need to promote yourself and book shows. Your artist page includes pictures, videos, links, real-time availability, setlists, and a direct "book me" link right there on your profile.

Your shareable booking link can be easily added to your instagram or facebook bio, your email signature, or your actual website. For busy musicians on a budget, this could be an extremely valuable easy-to-use promotional tool.
